Today, we are proud to announce our . Through the collective generosity of our ĢƵ community, we awarded $310,000 in scholarships to 37 remarkable scholars.

Below are three of this year’s recipients:

Yale University, Class of 2030
Intended Field of Study: Chemical Engineering & Economics

structural inequality…I hope to use that “superpower” to strengthen communities like mine worldwide.”

Angel Lopez, Leaders of Change Scholar
ĢƵ Collins Family College-Ready High School, Class of 2026
California State University, Dominguez Hills, Class of 2030
Intended Field of Study: Business Management & Economics

“I want a future rooted in service and responsibility, one where I can support my family, contribute to my community, and lead with integrity. The world I come from taught me that success isn’t about recognition, but about commitment, faith, and the willingness to carry weight for others when it matters.”

Karina Jaimes, College Care Package Scholar
ĢƵ Margaret M. Bloomfield Technology Academy High School, Class of 2026
University of California, San Diego, Class of 2030
Intended Field of Study: Pharmacological Chemistry

“As I move toward a future in pharmaceutical science, I do so with a clear mission: to help create a healthcare system that finally sees women fully, values their experiences, and designs treatments that honor their needs. I believe science can be a tool for equity, and I intend to use it that way.”

What inspires me most about these scholars is both their excellence and perspective. They each carry a deep awareness of the world around them, a commitment to something beyond themselves, and a belief that their experiences are not limitations, but catalysts for impact.

Behind them is a community of nearly 300 supporters, volunteers, and partners who show up and invest in what’s possible. We are especially grateful to the ĢƵ Foundation’s Scholar Success Board for championing the Gayle Miller Leaders of Change Scholarships, the Johnny Carson Foundation, and to all our partners whose belief in our scholars continues to expand access and opportunity.

Thank you for believing in their brilliance.

ĢƵ Featured in National Case Study on Educator Innovation /alliance-national-case-study-educator-innovation/ Thu, 26 Feb 2026 03:00:08 +0000 /?p=3531

Recently, Education Resource Strategies (ERS) highlighted ĢƵ College-Ready Public Schools’ work through a national case study, recognizing the network’s efforts to redesign the teacher experience in service of stronger student outcomes.

In 2023, ĢƵ launched Reimagining the ĢƵ Educator, grounded in a simple but powerful idea: when teachers are given the time, space, and support to do their best work, student outcomes follow.

Through this initiative, ĢƵ restructured school schedules to expand teacher planning time, strengthen collaboration, and deepen professional learning, creating the conditions for both teachers and scholars to thrive.

The case study spotlights how this model was piloted across three schools, demonstrating meaningful gains in student learning alongside increased teacher satisfaction and retention.

Explore the full case study to see how intentional design can transform both the teacher experience and student outcomes.

An Upward Trajectory /an-upward-trajectory/ Tue, 13 Jan 2026 12:00:47 +0000 /?p=3375

At ĢƵ, we often say that brilliance reveals itself over time. This year’s statewide academic results affirm that truth.

The longer scholars are with ĢƵ, the better they perform. An outcome that points to steady growth and an upward trajectory, shaped by years of investment in scholars and educators alike.

See this story come to life in this short video:

Here’s what the data shows:

  • The majority of ĢƵ scholars enter our schools performing well below grade level. Over time, they make remarkable academic gains year over year.
  • By 11th grade, ĢƵ scholars significantly outperform local and statewide averages in English Language Arts.
  • In math, ĢƵ scholars outperform local peers and perform on par with statewide peers, including their more affluent peers.

Behind every percentage point gained on state tests is a scholar with a dream to be a first-generation college graduate, a future engineer, a teacher, a leader. It’s a story of consistency—educators committed to scholar success, families believing in our model, and supporters investing in what matters most. And while these results are meaningful, they represent just one milestone on the journey to college success and beyond.

As we look ahead, we invite you to help carry this momentum forward and share what ĢƵ scholars are achieving.

Thank you for being part of this shared work. Together, we are proving what’s possible in public education.

Brilliance in full view. /brilliance-in-full-view/ Tue, 02 Dec 2025 03:49:01 +0000 https://alliancefoudev.wpenginepowered.com/?p=3015

Today, we join millions around the world in a movement centered on generosity and community. At ĢƵ, this day is about something far more personal.

Take a moment to step inside our alumni’s shoes and see how you have helped shape the futures they’re living today:

Every scholar who walks into an ĢƵ school carries a story uniquely their own. Our community is right there beside them, helping them realize they are capable of far more than they imagined. And in those moments of uncertainty, or when they get a glimpse of possibility, we are by their side saying, Your brilliance matters. And we’re here with you.

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to help create more moments where that brilliance comes fully into view. Your support:

  • ensures brilliant young people across Los Angeles have access to a high-quality public education
  • affirms and equips scholars to excel
  • opens doors to new possibilities through college and career pathways

When you give today, you’re investing in the unfolding story of a young person charting their future with purpose.

Thank you for helping illuminate the path that guides them forward.

One scholarship can change everything. /us-news-and-world-report-2025-rankings-alliance-2/ Thu, 13 Nov 2025 00:35:16 +0000 https://alliancefoudev.wpenginepowered.com/?p=2999

Last week, we hosted our 12th annual Leaders of Change event, where nearly 150 community supporters from across Los Angeles came together to celebrate the brilliance of ĢƵ scholars and alumni.

The evening was a powerful reflection of why Leaders of Change exists—to honor the journeys of ĢƵ graduates who are shaping careers, uplifting their communities, and redefining what’s possible for the next generation. Through the generosity of our sponsors and guests, we raised more than $185,000 for the ĢƵ Gayle Miller Leaders of Change Scholarship Fund, lighting the way for ĢƵ seniors who will head to college next fall.

Watch the video below to hear directly from alumni who have come full circle since receiving an ĢƵ scholarship:

Alumni like Alison and Edwin remind us that the power of community is not just something we say at ĢƵ; it’s something we live.

As we near the season of giving and reflection, we invite you to join us in extending that legacy. Every gift, no matter the size, helps fuel an ĢƵ scholar’s next step toward college and a bright future.

Thank you for believing in the promise of our scholars. Together, we are illuminating the light ahead for generations to come.

Dear Friends,

For more than 20 years, ĢƵ has remained anchored by a simple yet profound truth:

In a world where divisions can run deep, we do not choose sides; we choose our scholars.

Like me, most ĢƵ scholars are the first in their families to attend college. Nearly all come
from communities that have been overlooked or underestimated for far too long.
Despite the odds, they show up every day with courage and conviction.

Our job is to meet them with the same.

That’s what ĢƵ was built to do. To believe in our scholars, without condition or exception.
To build schools that affirm who they are, where they come from, and the brilliance they carry.
To prepare them for the future, and stand with them in shaping it.

Because we have stayed focused, our scholars continue to excel, demonstrating significant year-over-year academic growth and outpacing their peers in LAUSD, and even the state. Last spring, nearly all were accepted to college, and they will go on to graduate from college at a rate of 3.5 times the national average. Today, our 25,000 alumni are launching careers, mentoring peers, and transforming the world around them.

The road ahead will not be easy. The challenges facing public education are complex and growing, but ĢƵ has never been a place of comfort. We are a place of clarity, and that clarity continues to carry us forward as we reimagine how we lead, how we teach, and how we show up for the next generation.

The story you’ll find in these pages is one of action, imagination, and what becomes possible when we choose scholars, every time.

At ĢƵ, there’s a light ahead. And it’s never shone more brightly than now.

Thank you for believing in this work. Thank you for choosing our scholars.

Onward, always together,

Pablo Villavicencio

Dear Friends,

At the ĢƵ Foundation, we have the privilege of serving as both champion and catalyst, mobilizing the resources, partnerships, and ideas that turn brilliance into action.

We fund what matters most—exceptional educators, innovative school models, and programs that open doors for scholars. We also listen. We advocate. We mentor. Because we know that real impact is born from community, and carried forward in the hearts and dreams of our 12,000 scholars and 25,000 alumni.

This year, the brilliance of our community illuminated new possibilities.

Our Reimagine, Advance, Advocate Campaign has become the spark to propel us toward the future. With a $5 million matching contribution from a private family foundation, we’re on track to raise an additional $10 million in new strategic investments that will accelerate innovation, expand college and career success, and transform the educational landscape to one that fosters the thriving schools our scholars, educators, and communities have long envisioned.

Our annual report, The Light Ahead, is more than a collection of metrics. It’s a celebration of people. You’ll meet educators redefining what it means to teach, alumni shaping their communities with vision and purpose, and young scholar advocates stepping into civic leadership.

Proof of what’s possible when we invest in brilliance—not only in individuals, but in whole communities working together to light the way forward.

As the Foundation for ĢƵ schools, our charge is clear: to unlock the brilliance all around us. We do so with deep gratitude for partners like you, our believers, advocates, and builders of possibility.

Our shared future is brighter because of you.

With gratitude,

Catherine Suitor
Executive Director
