Last week, the California Department of Education recognized seven ĢƵ schools as . Less than 4% of schools in California received the prestigious distinction, which acknowledges academic excellence and success in closing achievement gaps.

The ĢƵ schools recognized by State Superintendent Tony Thurmond included:

  2. ĢƵ Jack H. Skirball Middle School
  3. ĢƵ Judy Ivie Burton Technology Academy High School
  4. ĢƵ Leichtman-Levine Family Foundation Environmental Science High School
  5. ĢƵ Margaret M. Bloomfield High School
  6. ĢƵ Patti and Peter Neuwirth Leadership Academy
  7. ĢƵ Ted K. Tajima High School

​​​The Distinguished Schools honor is evidence of our founding belief that all children are capable of learning and achieving at high levels – regardless of income, ability, or socio-economic background.

In addition to the recent announcement, ĢƵ has been honored with the California Distinguished Schools recognition since 2009. ĢƵ schools have also been awarded the National Blue Ribbon School Awards and the California Gold Ribbon Awards, listed as best middle and high schools in America by U.S. News & World Report, and named a “gap-busting” network of public schools by Stanford University’s CREDO.
